Diablo 4 Item Upgrades
Upgrades to items allow players to increase the item level of equippable items like weapons, armor, and trinkets above a certain threshold. You can upgrade items at any NPC that accepts the appropriate currency.
Slots are used to upgrade components into equipment to gain attribute bonuses and additional effects. These are mostly slot-restricted, but there are some universal upgrades.
Rerolling
In Diablo 4, a player can roll back an upgrade for an item. This is accomplished by using the Level Up feature, which stops your game and shows four randomly chosen upgrades. The player can select one of the upgrades to continue the battle. The cost of rerolling is the same as a normal Level Up. However players should be cautious when selecting an upgrade since they will not know what the new stats will be until the item is being rerolled.

There are also some unique and set items that don't require upgrading due to their inherently minimal requirements or benefits from upgrading (e.g. Goldwrap Naj's puzzler's staff.
Certain sets have set bonuses which provide additional effects if Link wears the entire set. These bonuses are helpful in certain situations, like when exploring the Gerudo Desert or in a dungeon. The Desert Voe set, for instance, offers the Stealth Up effect that makes it easier to escape the attention of enemies.
Universal upgrades are able to be installed on any type of equipment. These upgrades have lower bonuses than those that are restricted by type however, they are more easy to acquire. Certain upgrades can be transformed into gems by a jeweler. They can be used to upgrade any trinket slot. Other upgrade components are only placed in weapon accessories and provide a small bonus, but without causing more damage.
Requirements

Costs
Upgrading gear can increase its physical power, spell power, and health (for rings and armor) or add bonuses when it's in your inventory. You can make upgrade components or purchase them from vendors. They can also be obtained or dropped by other players on the Trading Post, or as a reward. Upgrade components can be put into weapons, armor and trinkets. They can also be mounted on gathering tools. The majority of upgrade components can be replaced with an Upgrade Extractor. The only exception is the glyphs. They are salvageable using the Black Lion Salvage Kit, or the Ascended Salvage tool.
The cost of upgrading an item could be gold and/or Dilithium according to the item type. In addition, many upgrades require Flightstones and/or crests. The number of crests and Flightstones needed to upgrade an item is contingent on the level of the gear and a maximum upgrade level is determined by Blizzard. The upgrade to the highest level can be costly especially when you're upgrading gear for PvE.
Upgrades can also modify a weapon's ammunition, or damage die size. They can also change the weapon's special properties like its heavy or operational property, or hand requirement. Certain upgrades can alter a weapon's appearance.
Before deciding on a purchase before making a decision, you must take into consideration the cost of upgrading an item. You may decide to make use of your gold for upgrading rare items, but don't spend it on standard or items of the magic-tier.
